Curator’s Comments:
I was drawn into Everett Mansion today despite it being posted on the site many years ago. There’s a freshness to the work, and directness, even with the multifaceted layering of graphic and painterly information. Vellum and resin are included in your caption of media, which may explain what appears to be physical strata of opaque and semi-transparent imagery. I like the branching lines working against the clusters of floral rosettes. While they are of course related as foliage in the piece, they also represent a quickening of line work, and a slower circling in of the flower petals. I believe the unifying pinkish-violet hue unifies the space, while the more neutralized brown drawing and ink field further add to the visual push and pull. Looking back through your other works, I remember admiring the “accidental” qualities, and haptic marks coupled with architectural rendering. The gestalt could bring together a sense of place, if not a particular time or memory. I hope you’ve continued in this vein over the years, and I would love to see where your art practice has taken you.
