Curator’s Comments:
Blue Ridge Parkway offers up the soft atmospheric beauty I’d come to appreciate in your landscapes some years back. Feeling as though I’m seeing this painting for the first time today, perhaps it was overshadowed at the time I first became acquainted with your work by the warmer colored palettes- pink and orange trees ablaze in Kalkaska County or Blue Lake Kalkaska City. Blue Ridge Parkway is arguably more subdued that some of your other autumnal landscapes, but the dappled light nicely leads the viewer in through the space. I also appreciate the verticality of the scene, as the thinner trees stretch up into the lighter sky. Pale blue streaks in the upper left corner read as filtered daylight, or faint distant trees. Either way, they construct a thin veil of color that offsets the denser clusters of foliage in the foreground. The lower chroma hues in the reflections add richness and depth to the space, visually grounding the trees along the waterline. I do hope you’re continuing to create- or capture- these gorgeous scenes.
