Curator’s Comments:
The playful title Amazonian Antics fits this spirited piece, with its wild twisting of black snake-like forms against a pink, yellow and green background. It’s also interesting to see the noted media as acrylic, as I would have assumed the image was a monoprint, or clay transfer because of the graphic elements against semi-transparent pigments. The layering of organic shapes and color create a wonderful movement within the composition, while the broader field of yellow allows for continuity and some visual rest. Looking through your other paintings on the site, I see this work shares active use of curvilinear shapes, but this organization feels a little more erratic, or at least is balanced asymmetrically. I appreciate this slight instability, and unexpected way in which the larger dark shapes are placed and cropped off of the edges of the right side of the picture plane. I keep coming back to this work, and enjoy its freshness, despite it being posted several years ago. Please do share more of your work in the new year.
