Curator's Comments:
The curling gestural lines of Oak attracted my attention, along with the virile green hues. The downward slope of the large tree branch sweeps along a compositional diagonal, effortlessly connecting the large subject to both sky and ground. I enjoy the small interstices of sky that appear between the dense foliage, bringing an airier quality to the dense brushwork. While you chose not to list scale and media here, I wonder if this piece is painted on paper. The rough edges look as though the painting could be deckled paper, or it could be the buildup of paint on the canvas edge. Looking back through your other pieces on the site, I recall admiring your collage works some time ago. Oak arguably expresses a different aesthetic approach, although I sense all of your works display a sensitive observation of natural, organic forms. Please do consider adding new work to the site.
