Curator's Comments:
This saturated abstraction came up randomly on the site today, and I enjoyed viewing the robust tension between the layered elements in the piece. The design has a strong balance between order and chaos, as the intervals of the two types of colored bands are not quite predictable. At first glance, the piece exerts a bold and fresh simplicity. The intense red and blue-violet textured strips have some progression of contrast as the viewer moves down the verticality of the composition, while the solid green linear shapes are smooth and even. The tapering of the green bands, getting more pronounced in the bottom half, are another aesthetic decision that orchestrates a slight shift, and more complex organization than appreciated in the initial viewing. The two other optical paintings with the same title, Eagle One, and related shapes continue the rhythmic variations of the same dance. I wonder if they’re digitally generated, or perhaps stencil based? Whatever the media, I do hope you continue to post new work on the site. The range between your stylistic approaches is quite broad, and satisfying.
