Curator’s Comments:
This graphic text-based piece caught my attention today, as it seems particularly appropriate to the times despite its 2013 original post date. The thick white stenciled words NEVER LOSE YOUR FAITH interestingly contrast the organically modeled imagery underneath. While it’s difficult to make out a discernable subject in the first layer of the painting, for me it has a decidedly figurative presence. The fleshy red-orange tones of the rounded form are set off against a cooler, and textural blue ground. While these two disparate surfaces set up a strong visual contrast, the tracing of bits of white from ghost letters to some degree unite the two layers. Looking back at your other works posted, I remember admiring a flag inspired painting. Here again, the graphic elements are softened by complexly modeled passages of color. I would love to see what you’re making now.
