Curator's Comments:
I had admired and commented on your piece Corona a couple years ago, marveling at the smooth and styled abstraction. When Nefertiti appeared more recently and randomly on the site, I recognized your unique technique, but also appreciated the more representational human features as reference points for the spatial ambiguity. The brightly illuminated space where the viewer would expect the eye on the right functions as a mystical oculus; perhaps a gateway within fissures of the organically forming bubbles. The intense expression of the face, and appearance of it fluctuating between layers of space furthers the supernatural sensation of the work. As the painting is arguably the most referential among the works you have posted, I’m wondering if the subject holds special significance. I also can’t help but contemplate if you revisited the piece Corona today, if the work would translate to a darker, and more foreboding picture.
