Hambrook Marshes came up at random on the site this afternoon, and I’m glad I took a closer look.  I have admired your verdant landscapes in the past; this slightly muted color palette offers a striking textural field and subtle sense of daybreak. The palette knife work employed in the sky builds an impression of dappled sunlight filtered through patchy clouds – all around a pale, radiating sun. The attention to contrasting linear strokes in the foreground produces a dense and inviting entry into the landscape, while serving to support the atmospheric perspective. The darker middle ground adds further depth to the space, and a richness in the dominant green and gold hues. I believe the proportion of sky to land is enhanced by the square format. Rather than offering a predictably horizontal expanse, the blocks of colors are set up as one would take in a non-objective color field painting.  I was surprised to see the media noted as acrylic; the natural pigments and lower chroma palette are those I more often associate with oil.  I do see that this work was created many years ago.  Please do consider sharing some of your new landscapes.  I’m interested to see where they’ve taken you.
