I have to use bolder color once in a while!

Curator’s Comments:
While you’ve noted that you used bolder color in this work than in your general studio practice, I still see Pulse as a fairly restrained painting. The predominantly pinkish-brown tint throughout the overarching copper field overtakes the small bursts of intense color- whether scumbled over the top, or more carefully built up as an underlayer. There is an excavation of sorts, as the tension between higher chroma and more subtle hues compete. I feel the work has a very organic feel until I get to the very bottom of the picture plane, which features a broken line of continually interrupted, primary hues. I’m sure I would appreciate the full effect of the metallic pigment if viewing the piece in person. On screen there appears to be nuanced reflectivity and interface with light. Please do consider posting new works to the site. I’m intrigued by your dexterous handling of large sculptural forms and more nuanced non-objective painting.
