Tellus Aeolo - Dance of the Wind & Earth Goddess

Measurements: 33.50"H x 23.50"W
Description...

Wax dye resist (batik) and acrylics with cut out wood veneer leaves applique on distressed warped wood panel. The original grains & knots on the wood dictates an image of a womens body that was predominantly vivid. This was the initial inspiration towards this painting. The wood surface told me what to paint so to speak! This aspect of batiking on wood doesn't come very often. This is also my first attempt on applying (pasted/glued) cut out & batiked leaf shapes wood veneers to give it a more 3 dimensional effect. It also has a double purpose of camouflaging the distressed areas of the wood. No frame is included in this piece as it is ready to be displayed on the wall as it is.

Curator’s Comments:

The uniquely undulating forms of Tellus Aeolo-Dance of the Wind & Earth Goddess also caught my attention when it was randomly featured on the site.  I appreciate the organic figuration in many of your mixed media works. This piece utilizing similar abstraction of the body, and integrates graphic pattern in an unusual, unexpected motif.  The limited color palette accentuates the grain of the wood, and relays an organic feel to the positive space, white the white areas provide sharp visual contrast. I was intrigued by your description accompanying the piece, describing the application of batik.
