Curator’s Comments:

By the Light was featured in a random selection of works on the site today, and I agreed with the notation that the space in the photograph has an eerie glow. The round window, askew from the center arch in the composition, reads as a floating object rather than an open portal to the sky. The light on the weathered ceiling lath shows a beautiful patina, and spatially leads the viewer back to the small circular window. But since the light is coming from the open archway rather than the round window itself, it almost seems as though the light is being generated from the interior of the church.  It’s a beautiful piece, full of quiet mystery.
