Curator’s Comments:
I recently stumbled across Los Cucharoacho on the site. It is a humorous figurative work, personifying the surprised roach while emphasizing the awkward appendages and abstraction of the equally startled human. It’s clever that the office chair on which the person is perched suggests a third leg with a claw at the end; the chair rollers curl onto themselves rather than flatly meet the ground. This connection is reasserted by the toes, which protrude with the same shape and proportions. The pitch-black ground visually sets off the careful line work and stippling defining the anatomy of both creatures. I do find myself speculating on why the human’s head was cropped off in the drawing. While a facial expression could have supported the emotion expressed, the piece does a good job presenting a familiar and funny predicament. I see that this piece was created some time ago, and hope you consider adding some new drawings to the site.
