It is so hard to take a photo of a venetian plaster work because the flash bounces off the shiny finish and it ruins the photo. I did not use a flash with this photo and the light source in the room gave it kind of a yellow tint...anyways this is a 4ft x 8ft Venetian Plaster, I was studying Fredrick Remington's night sky's when I did it and that is where the Green sky comes from...approx. 300 labor hours

Curator’s Comments:
This unusual piece appeared randomly on the site today, and I’m intrigued by the appearance of dimensionality as it relates to your comments about Venetian plaster. This large-scale painting appears to draw from several historical events or settings to create a multi-figure Romantic narrative. The reference to Frederick Remington’s night sky is visible, and with it, the light casts an interesting glow on the scene in the foreground. The green and violet hues enhance the dramatic shadows in the otherwise locally colored landscape. It looks as though the figures in Harvest Moon are developed with illusionary chiaroscuro in their garments, but also cut out in separate flat pieces and later attached to the canvas. For me this creates a theatrical relationship between the figures and ground. Looking for works that share these techniques, I appreciated the lighter mood and setting of Nap Time. The physicality of the media and relief surface is more apparent there. As both works were created many years ago, I would be interested to see how your studio practice has developed since then. Please do consider adding newer work to the site if you are still active and able.
