A chaotic background dominates this acrylic painting. A woman walks through it, wondering what she's actually touching. It's a secret. 18" x 24"

Curator’s Comments:
I believe I viewed this painting Proprietary Information several years ago, but focused my attention and comments on the adjacent piece, entitled Cold Coastline. At the time I was intrigued primarily by the textural use of decalcomania evident in both works on the site. While the bold abstraction of the Coastline piece first caught my interest, coming back to them by chance, I better appreciate the nuanced relationship between the figural element and organic configurations of the second work. The proportionally small figure in Proprietary Information does appear to be negotiating a sea of chaotic space, as per your statement about the painting. I find it interesting that you chose a flowing pale orange garment for her, of a similar hue to the active background patterns. The effect is that of a figure wading into foaming waters- welcoming the possible submersion into an alien environment. The gestural sway of her arms also mirrors the diagonal trajectory of the path of the turbulent “sea”. The reference to a secret assures the viewer that the mystery of the image is by design.
