Running Fences enjoys a beautiful rhythmic repetition, particularly as the animal’s back aligns so perfectly with the curve of the gray fence. The near-black cast shadows of the fence slats on the grass pulls the value pattern into the right side of the picture plane, counterbalancing the dark horse. I also appreciate how the direction of the fences counter the trajectory of the horse’s gaze, splitting the movement into first parallel, then divergent paths. While there is considerably variation in the subject matter of your work, each of the photographs appears to celebrate formal harmonies within natural, or intimate architectural environments.
