Curator’s Comments:

Back of My Head attracted my attention today, as it sets up an almost eerie quality of imagined anatomy, with false eyes on the back of the head. The smoky handling of the black pastel and graphite soften the detailed articulations within the head, which I see from your note are based on shapes within the brain. The eye shapes placed where one would expect them on the front of the face anchor the other organic forms, but then move visually upwards to the open top.  The warm tone of the paper enhances the subdued nature of the work, and provides a tone not unlike flesh. Looking back through your other pieces on the site, I remember admiring and commenting on the more colorful Hero Torso. While it was the strong compartmentalization of organic forms that first attracted my attention, I also remember thinking the drawings impart mystery through deconstruction of the body. Back of My Head doesn’t disappoint.  But as these works were all posted several years ago, I do hope you consider sharing some of your new work to the site.
