Portrait of JC is a compelling picture.  The dry brush work simply and exquisitely depicts black hair piled on top of the subject’s head, minimizing the other figural components.  I enjoy the contrasting softness of the pink tones that make up the body, and carry into the chalky background. The square format keeps focus on the head, and by avoiding the portrait orientation of the picture plane, arguably contributes to the slight abstraction. Looking back through your other paintings on the site, I remember several pieces that share the same active marks, holding tenson between quick gesture and more articulated forms with a full range of gradated values.  Sensitive lines appear to quiver under the weight of bold swaths of paint.
