Curator’s Comments:

The alluring piece entitled Zahrada attracted my attention today, though it was posted many years ago. Looking up the title, there was some ambiguity for me whether it simply refers to any garden, or a special garden place.  The painting projects a sense of wonderment and surreal natural beauty.  The proportion of the birds within their nesting structure suggests architectural space, but their graphic juxtaposition in scale is softened by the lightly tinted color palette of muted hues.  The path leading the viewer into this subtle work looks to be encumbered by large, but incongruously light, boulders.  This visually draws us into the space, but blocks our entrance into both the enclosed garden configuration as well as the expansive landscape beyond.  The containment of lush foliage as well as living things within the singular structure suggests they are either precious, unattainable, or both.  Looking through your other pieces on the site, I remember admiring your amazingly detailed three-dimensional works as well as the mysterious dusky atmosphere of Sunday Morning. They all present exquisite invented realms anchored in our known world.  As they were posted some time ago, I hope you consider adding new works to the site.
