Curator’s Comments:
The multi-block relief print Ceide Cliffs invites the viewer into a commanding pictorial space. The blocky dark shape of the cliff crowds out the water in an interesting graphic way- the carving accentuates an expanse of counter movement between the brown and white gouge marks. I also appreciate the black slice of land further off on the horizon of this austere landscape. It supports the rough elegance between positive and negative space. While scale isn’t indicated on the image, the notation about the printmaking process and the ancient subject add to its economic power. It is simply arresting.
