Curator’s Comments:
The Unmasking of Good Intent in an intriguing image that suggests a psychological unraveling of personal motivations. The split between the warm and cool hues and varying sized articulations of texture formally enhance that mood of a ruptured façade. While the square format of the panel support removes associations with traditional landscape, I’m particularly drawn to the organic manipulation of the bottom section, with its segmented ground reaching up towards “sky”. Imagining the biomorphic forms within a micro versus macro-cosmic relationship brings to mind other environmental encroachments. Looking back through your other works on the site, I was reminded of the piece I admired years ago entitled Timeline. These highly tactile encaustic works appear to take full advantage of the sculptural possibilities of the medium. The Unmasking also has a richness and depth of color that suggests shifts between opacity and translucency of the colored wax. I do hope you share more paintings to the site if you are still working, and able.
