Curator’s Comments:
I had the pleasure of viewing C’est l’amour sui passe when it popped up in a random selection of works on the site. The text and snake entwining the leg of the female figure on the right conjure threatening trysts rather than the peaceful passing of naturally fading love relationships. The floating feathers are another curious iconographic inclusion that may have injected soft transience into the work if not for the snake. In this context, the drifting feathers allude to disruption, if not the utter destruction of something fragile. The blue-faced figure on the left is easily the focal point of the painting based on her size, and direct gaze. I find the central figure between the women to be androgynous in the love triangle. The formal decision to keep the trio at slightly shifting angles in the piece adds to the upset. Looking back through your other works on the site, I remember admiring your whimsically painted plates. While this painting arguably delves into a realm more painfully real than fantasy, it is painted in such a way that the viewer can voyeuristically enjoy the vying trio.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
