Curator’s Comments:
This apparently untitled work drew my attention this morning with its fluid compositional movement, and interesting value pattern. The stark white lines on a dark background appear to be a negative flip of traditional figure-ground relationships. I also enjoy the alternating decorative patterns within the linear contours. Fluctuating between different kinds of marks, the green dots in particularly compliment the filled in sections of white and blue-violet. Looking through your other paintings on the site, I see that this piece is unusual in its reliance on line, rather than color to conjure form. It also has an offset balance of visual weight, rather than a centralized focal image. The media isn’t designated, so I wonder if the change in space and line has something to do with how the pigment is applied. Either way, I would love to see more of your recent work on the site.
