Curator’s Comments:
The luminosity created through the extreme value shifts in Winter Falls imbues this piece with an almost surreal beauty. The centrality of the waterfall in the composition sets up a strong bilateral symmetry, adding stability to the visual movement, and twisting dark shadows in the snowy rocks below. The richness of the black tonalities adds a softness to many of your works, rounding off the edges of what otherwise would be graphically hard-edged photographs. Stylistically, I believe this approach particularly lends itself to your broad, expansive approach to the landscape. The pieces you have on the site represent a tightly curated signature style. As Winter Falls came up randomly after being posted a couple years ago, I wonder if your practice expands beyond these images. In either case, I would enjoy seeing more of your work on the site.
