Curator’s Comments:

Morning Seas is an elegant piece with a complex value pattern.  The image emits an overall mood of softness with velvety grays in the mounded rock formations, while providing unexpected punches of inky blackness in the foreground trees.  The silver reflections in the water also contribute to the dreamlike suspension of natural forms in the landscape. It’s as though I’m experiencing a surreal scene, but with closer looking, I recognize it’s your artful direction that elevates the ordinary into the sublime. Looking back through your other photographs on the site, I remember commenting on the gorgeous interplay of light and shadow in Water & Sand a few years ago. While Morning Seas is arguably a more expansive and varied picture in terms of textural manipulation and the manner in which light is captured, an ethereal quality is evident is both works. I imagine the physical photo printed on rag paper holds an even richer surface. I do hope if you visit the site you consider posting new imagery.
