Curator’s Comments:

Villa of Shadows was featured in a random selection on the site today, and I was happy to look back through your stunning mixed media works.  I find it interesting that this image appears to be an outlier in the near photographic depiction of a building, sharing more aesthetically with the jewel toned portraits than the drawings of other architectural elements. The turquoise and blue -violet sky contrasts with the warm tonality of the building’s façade. While the subject obviously exists in the space, the value and color contrast imbue the image with an unworldly glow. The title of the piece adds to the color mystery, as well as the black lace pattern of the trees.  It is beautiful, but ever slightly foreboding. The strong bilateral symmetry of the “portrait" invites the viewer into the space, but we never gain full entry. I do hope you continue to add new work if you revisit the site.  I would like to see how your practice has evolved since this was shared.
