Curator's Comments:

Balance this came up randomly on the site today, and I became attracted to the contrasting figure-ground relationship. The tendrils emanating from the organic figures connects them visually, and yet creates a taught visual design. The “balance” referenced in the title is evidenced by forms tumbling along multiple linear paths. The sharp articulation of their edges creates a foreground-background illusion of space, while the piece as a whole reads as a non-objective composition. Jay Zerbe’s earlier comment resonated with me only after I re-familiarized myself with our larger body of work.  I agree that the mood of this piece is whimsical, and does not share the muscular attention to anatomy shared by many of your other paintings.  But I can also see connections to biological organisms- perhaps on a more microscopic level. Please do consider posting some of your new work- I would like to see how it has evolved.

this is an interesting direction - opening up the background space. plus it is a little more "fanciful" since i'm not thinking about the insides of my body!
