Hi Laurel, I'm enjoying exploring the juxtaposition of abstract and representational approaches to art.

Thanks, Laurel. I'm trying to get my drawing skills up to snuff; I want a career in art, not Burger King. I'm going to school for Game Art and Design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, but my main focus is on traditional art skills. I believe that if my technical art creation abilities are strong, it can only enhance my performance with computer animation and game design. I really like your work. Your subjects really come alive.
Hi Laurel, Glad you found my work. I thought this site was closing down so I rarely check it anymore. I appreciate your taking the time to look at my images. Love the musical instruments you paint, my sons play trombone and sax.
Phew, glad you got them, yes I am self taught, does it show? Also glad you think my composition is good,it does worry me sometimes as I never really plan it.
I have not painted anything since I lost my husband 9mths ago, every day including today I promise myself I will try,but the day goes and paints are still in the tin.
Do you manage to paint often, you must do I think, you seem to master so many subjects.
Hello Laurel, many thanks for your positive feedback on Fishermans Lot II.No I and No III sold within a couple of weeks for a very good price, this one just "hangs around",couple of years now.Wish I could get a better image of the others for this site.
The Dutch Masters also give me inspiration,I teach Botanical Painting.
Your comments gave me the chance to see your work, beautiful, beautiful.
Thank you so much for the welcome! I am looking for ways to connect with other artists that are out there, because I am so new to the art world and the amount of information that I am able to get from teachers may really be limited. I think that it would be really amazing to be able to make a living doing something that makes me feel so great. I am attending California State University, Chico and am working on an art degree emphasizing in painting and drawing. So far I have submitted a painting to one show (which just began on the 3rd of this month) and it was selected. The show is at a local gallery, but it was considered a "National Juried Watermedia" show and I am really very excited about it. I having been checking the artdeadline website for other shows to submit work to and am looking into a BFA degree program as opposed to the BA. I began my current series of paintings last semester and its really the first time I have been this enthusiastic about what I have chosen as far as concept goes. I feel like the main ideas that fascinate me are human emotion/expression and psychological concepts. I am very lacking in knowledge of contemporary artists to look at as far as figurative work or similar themes. I just started looking at Gottfried Helnwein and one of my teachers just showed me an artist who I think I very much can relate to, Ali Cavanaugh. I would say that I joined the group, "Take it to the next level" to follow what kinds of things other people might be talking about that I may not have thought about. Any advice concerning my artwork and/or how to go about being an artist as a career is greatly appreciated.
they live in the hidden parts of the flower. i assume they live on nectar and pollen. these are indeed macro shots. many of them are shot with a lens that is actually a low-power microscope. i usually use 2x-3x magnification. they are for sale and i'm in a small gallery. and i'm cheap.
you have no idea! we are too isolated to get a cable, too low in the valley for satellite and our phone line is so old that it will only support a 26.4k connection. i still work one quarter a year at our university, so i do all my heavy duty up/down loading from there. blessings in return from athens ohio. these little flowers are their own world, each one of them. and i have seen such amazing things in them. do you know they are loaded with shrimps! they are so tiny you can't see them, but they have eyes and antennae and little shrimp bodies: Talitroides Sylvaticus.
whew! this was driving me nuts. part of the problem was that the pages load slow and i am stuck with dial-up until death or the next millenium, whichever comes first. these are all wildflowers that grow out here in the boonies and i am compulsive about finding them. last year i started using a 21 mpx camera with a lens that magnifies. i shoot an entire series and then use a piece of software that fits everything together in focus. that's what it takes to get what would be an otherwise impossible depth of field. i could say more but i better finish getting the kitchen painted before my wife comes home.
