Nice painting
Love this work.Feels more like Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo a la Turk" other side of "Take Five"
Curator’s Comments:
Thank you for seeking out dialogue and critique of your new painting, Angels in Flight. I do detect a different kind of handling of the open space in this piece, and alternately a tighter compression of smaller elements. The painting of course still bears a close formalistic connection to your other abstractions, but I can see you stretching your stylistic decisions. The visual connection to music remains evident, but perhaps Mozart’s tempo is represented in wider swings of lines. “Contrapuntal complexities” comes to mind when I think of the Classical composer, and the manner in which you have organized the linear pieces and circular forms. The longer shapes create counterpoint to the circular eyes. Are the eyes intentionally more distinctly formed? Perhaps because of the slightly larger proportion of unoccupied space, I can also appreciate the smudged values and shadows in the further background. Other pieces are more aggressively layered, and so the subtly may be overcome by the final layer of graphic components. I must still add the caveat that viewing the paintings on a monitor may also misrepresent the surface qualities to some degree. The comfortable human scale adds of the physical canvas no doubt adds to the viewing experience.
