Curator’s Comments:
Hex Coupling injects playful irony into this rather formal piece with its humorous title. The graphic yellow and black stripes suggest industrial materials while smartly playing against the genre of post-painterly abstraction. The compartmentalization of the modular work organizes a satisfying combination of unity and disorder. The formation of triangular unity between the upper pieces suggests a “right” way to connect the parts, just as the viewer wants to turn and align the bolder black bars. It’s difficult for me to see the inclusion of natural sisal referenced in the list of media on my screen. Perhaps coiled in the hexagon on the far left, it could be adding a disparate element for surface contrast. All in all, it is a pleasing design. Rhythmically repetitive, and altered enough for us to question how moving parts should fit together when extracted from the whole.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
