Curator’s Comments:
The forceful and meaty sections of color are nicely positioned against the opaque white textural fields in these works. I especially like the painterly top section of Harmony, followed by the transitional scumbling in the middle and final reprieve from full saturation and texture in the bottom pinkish-violet of this composition. Harmony therefore sets the viewer up for complementary but divergent systems of mark making rather than a unilateral visual experience. The thin linear elements further help to accentuate the more textured areas of focus, and create a hierarchy of space. I am also taken with the adjacent piece titled Erupt, though it has a decidedly more discordant relationship between color and space. The dark black organic shapes remind me of Motherwell’s massive Elegy to the Spanish Republic paintings; the piece is dynamic but shares an inexplicably somber tone. The implied suspension of the dark masses plays with my interpretation of these forms as cohesive shapes versus revealed, formerly buried layers of stratified paint.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
