Curator’s Comments:
I was thrilled to see your new piece Kinship posted to the site, and immediately recognized your signature style. The notation about this digital painting gave me pause to reflect, as I had over simplistically believed the pandemic wouldn’t factor into your abstract imagery. But the recent time of imposed separateness coupled with an interconnectivity to kin can be felt on a primal, intrinsic level, and reflected in these beautiful merging forms. The tiny shimmering dots and semi-translucent blue and violet passages also conjure a climate of impermanence. I see the thin white lines as further breaking apart the darker contrasting sections, suggesting fissures in the smooth surface. I’m curiously drawn to the orange hue on the lower edge of the petal form in the bottom of the composition. It visually breaks away from the overall cool palette, and suggests the turning or aging of an undulating fold. Thank you for sharing this new work. As always, I find your work elegant and understated. My new insight into your practice allows me to recognize Kinship as sensitive to our time rather than time in the biological abstract.
