Hi Chalda, Thank you for offering some insight into these newer works. While I see strong formal threads connecting the new pieces to your previous work, I now see the emphasis on life forces and renewal.
Thank you for your comments, Kristen. It is good to touch base! I have been working intensively on this group of artworks for two years and am just starting to unveil it. Subsequent to some deaths in my family, I have been pondering issues of mortality, uncertainty, and survival. The imaginary being "Worldling" is so fragile and transparent that it almost melts into the environment. Yet it faces each moment full-frontally, as we all must, with optimism and resolve.
Curator’s Comments:
I’m excited to see your new works posted on the site. While they appear to maintain your distinctive signature style and pure digital process, some of the pieces do seem to assert a more specific figuration. Worldling attracts the eye with bilateral symmetry contrasting delicate membranes of saturated color. The subtle shifts of value and line in the body and wings of the insect suggest a fluttering movement, whereas the smaller adjacent form evokes an earlier stage of metamorphosis. The thin black lines completing or extending the top antennae of the flying insect nicely ‘pin’ the form into the space. I enjoy the way in which the design pulls to all sides of the picture plane except for the top- which opens up space to breathe, and move out of the visually implied confines.
