Curator’s Comments:
While the elaborate fantasy narratives attached to some pieces no doubt add to the complexity of their relationship between story and image, Bell Spore stands apart for me as a dramatic and yet ambiguous living entity. Its seeded form suggests a ripe fruit with a prickly exterior; spliced open against a severe landscape. But its biomorphic shape also intimates a sea creature or invertebrate. The title clues me that it is in fact an invented organic organism, but the uncertainty opens up possibilities as to its function and meaning. From a purely formal standpoint, I enjoy the flat solid color that opposes the gestural lines. The bright blue background (sky) and pale blue mountain slope set off the warm reds and browns in the undulating top of the object. It is clean and graphic, and keeps me coming back for longer viewing.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
