Curator’s Comments:
I love the unexpected formal qualities in this piece. The irregularly shaped support provides a fresh balance to the dramatically divided value pattern, which unpredictably shifts on a rough-cut diagonal. Both sections possess an interesting layered surface. While you haven’t designated media or process, I see the whitish left as a weathered patina, and the right half as additively layered and built up. I also like the thin linear threads or striations applied throughout the artwork, which function as unifying and connecting patterning. Of course, the physicality cannot be completely represented on my monitor. Looking back through your other works on the site, I am appreciative of the variation in media and subject matter, and can see how your practice seeks out the tension between ordered and chaotic elements. I do hope you continue to post new work on the site.
