Portfolios: Graphite Drawings

Curator’s Comments:
There’s a luxurious tonal quality to these dense graphite drawings, as the viewer gets drawn into the thicket of the finely rendered brush. Rathborney in particular coaxes us into its elongated picture plane, to move back from the foreground all the way up and through to the recessed stone arch. All of the organically articulated textures further assist in the wide ranging movement of an otherwise calm and stable landscape, offering animated passage and mystery. Entrance appears to be a formidable drawing as well, though it’s indicated it’s of moderate scale. In this piece the compact and tightly developed root shelf forms a physical barrier to the exposed space above, appearing to weave a single undulating mass of thicket in the bottom half of the picture. The open sky appearing at the roughly midway point offers an interesting angled reprieve, and visual respite.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
