Curator’s Comments:
Sacred Dove reappeared on the site today, and I was struck how your now familiar work offers a slightly different sensibility with each viewing. I was first drawn into your eternal stone portraits created from cemetery carvings, only to appreciate more subtle vignettes like Sacred Dove with subsequent viewing. The strong bilateral symmetry of this photograph helps organize the different hued patinas in the scene. The eye scans the composition for slight deviations in the textured surface and thin cracks, only to rest at the bottom text. I appreciate the decision to crop the flowing drapery at the top, so that the emphasis is on the sweeping lines and shadowy alcove created for the downturned dove. I may have commented before that your works contain a slightly macabre tone due to the nature of the subject matter, but this piece moves beyond overt reference to a tomb, and for me, captures a talisman of earthly transcendence. I do hope you continue to share your new pieces to the site.
