Curator’s Comments:
The Act of Perceiving is an interesting piece, having a robust gestural sensibility like your other paintings, but at the same time offering another layer of visual restraint. I was happy to see it appear under a random search of the site. The looping background is surprisingly flat and convoluted; it puts greater contrast on the organic, visceral center form in the image. Certainly abstract, the central image does suggest a figurative entity. I find the implication of a purposely indistinct natural figurative form somewhat curious when considered alongside the piece’s title. A sense of release is arguably implied in the blurred and manipulated pigment in the painting, transitioning from lighter to darker saturation. But perception requires certain cognition, if not sensory understanding of the environment. The piece’s power is that it leaves me with more questions than answers.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
