Curator’s Comments:
I love the formal interplay between painterly mark marking and photographic collaged elements in these works. Whereas most collage artists endeavor to integrate found materials, there exists an exciting tension between the disparate surfaces and applications of disjoined imagery in this series. Day and Night is particularly charismatic in its dichotomously diveded language of space and color. The insistence on the large soaring owl is faintly humorous in the context of the cleanly polished interior, but it also casts a forlorn shadow in its overall blue mood. As a sentient animal entity, the bird appears separated from the human/mechanical constructed environment, leaving the viewer to question the inborn sensation of home and shelter. Because of the decorated furniture and accessories there’s also an inherent focus on the singular being’s relationship with material goods. I also very much like the piece entitled Travel Diary. Considerably more chaotic in sensation and composition, the architectural elements appear to tumble before they dissolve into a diaphanous, gauzy landscape. The infusion of gestural marks interrupting the checkered floor further implies tumultuous movement rather than slow and natural archaeological decay.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
