Unseen friends

I’ve been rediscovering a number of unique pieces on the site through random selections lately. Unseen friends appeared today, and while I remember commenting on the non-objective piece El Camino de Chun in the same portfolio, the dreamy Unseen friends was somehow overlooked.  Vestiges of the geometric configurations I enjoyed in the earlier painting appear in the floating spheres in this work. The illuminated and gold-haloed figure suspends the visual weight in the top of the composition, while her shadowed eyes connect to the hazy dark terrain. I appreciate the open value pattern in the piece, which blurs the edges and boundaries between the figure and ground. While she seems distanced from her space in color and representation, these formal connectors merge the disparate forms. The intriguing comment accompanying the work suggests the existence of helpful “ghosts”, or other worldly companions.  While I don’t know that I would have gleaned this specific a reading of the work’s content, it does convey an alternate and luminous reality above all logic and reason. I do hope you’ve continued your art practice, and would love to see recent work.
