Curator’s Comments:

It’s unfortunately all too easy to overlook some of your subtle, virtually abstracted compositions among the stunning photographs of portrait oriented monuments.  Tidal Pool at Yesanby for me is one of those pieces that resonate with a longer viewing.  The brown stones immersed in the murky green water enhance the general warm tone in the organic subject matter, setting off the visual contrast with the largest blue-grey stone stacked on top.  The top stone, as a focal element, calls to mind a natural section of sorts, or demarcation of a chosen element in a ubiquitous environment. The general curvilinear orientation of the stones adds a soothing compositional aspect or facet to the work.  The eye travels around, and then down into the space.  Psychologically I interpret the piece as contemplative and calm, but it also hints at something else, unknown, lying beneath.
