Which is more important - the artwork or the promotion of it? Take for example the section of ARTnews magazine where the reviews are. Take any magazine issue and read the text that goes with each picture. It seems to me that many artists could create something as good but the writer brings it to life and to the attention of the world. So who's the real artist?

That's kind of like saying, I'll just read the New York Times Book Review, and never read a whole book again. But there is a symbiosis. We create works of art. A critic brings it to the public's attention. Unfortunately we need them because most people don't have confidence in their own taste, and will follow the herd. In economic terms, it's about perceived value. I don't like it, but this is the planet I live on.
If a critic reviews your art, does that mean you have already made it big?
If a "critic reviews your Art, ...." You should be respectfully appreciative, then move forward with your Art!
