First off I want to know how recognizable the subject is, so take a moment to look before you comment.
If you couldn't tell, it's supposed to resemble a flying, slightly decaying whale (I won't go into detail about the meaning or reality of the piece). It's intentionally not supposed to have eyes. If the body is not recognizable enough as a whale, I would like to know possible ways to improve the subject.

I would not have recognized it as a whale. I did not see a whale in the drawing until after i read your description and then looked for it. i would say make the mountain on the left lighter; it's too close in value to the whale. and then the whale's body seems a very odd shape. from the mouth back on the right side it's unrecognizable
I still don't see a whale, even after reading your description. I see a mad crow struggling under the weight of a goldfish. I don't think the tree helps if you are dealing with ocean life. Interesting piece though.
Hi Andrew,
lovely technique, great drama created by the tiny tree. Not quite sure I recognized the shape as a whale. Is it swimming away from us? I see one fin and some back details. Whales have very limited attributes, so if it is important to you for us to recognize it as a whale, punch up those attributes.
Thanks for sharing
