Curator's Comments:

Is it possible to second a comment made way back in 2009? I wasn’t sure how I missed this attractive piece, but looking at your other sculptures on the site, I see that I commented on another work in your trio, and noted the dissimilar aesthetics between them. Bolt-1 Is as perplexing as it is mesmerizing.  The figural quality of the totem is underscored by the strong graphic elements. For me its reminiscent of the West African sculpture with applied geometric design- maybe from Burkina Faso? I’m wondering if you’ve looked to those art historical traditions for inspiration, or if you’re simply tapping into a universal expression of form. The undulating “body” of the piece is a beautiful foil to the zig-zag design, and slows down the visual movement. I don’t know how likely it is that you’ll post new work, since these were made many years ago, but I’d still love to see more.
