Curator's Comments:
An October Field attracted my attention today with its soft contrast and warm-hued foliage. I’m glad I spent more time viewing it today, as it has a good deal of intricacy and unexpectedly subtle color gradations that viewers may not appreciate in the thumbnail. The piece employs a general figure-ground relationship, with the larger leaf shape organizing the grouping of smaller silhouetted plants against a pink and grey sky, but I also appreciate the vacillation between pictorial and decorative space. The top more painterly section suggests gray storm clouds, which again beautifully contrast the hard-edged stencil approach below. The mood is airy, but slightly somber. I remember admiring your mixed media prints in the past. Perhaps this image stood out today as the days are growing shorter, and October is right around the corner.
