Curator's Comments:
These Judeo-Christian inspired monoprints attracted my attention when they recently appeared on the site. The mixed media designation looks as though it involves stencil-based work and/or serigraphy. The black lines compartmentalizing the intense chunks of color that abstractly make up the religious configurations are suggestive of stained-glass windows. I therefore found it intriguing to see this treatment used stylistically in your other secular works. Calvary 1 is my favorite of the selection in this series, because of the abstraction suggests ascension and transformation within the narrative of the crucifixion. The body appeared to grow slightly larger as we move up the picture plane, while maintaining a head-on vantage point. The deep pink color palette recalls the blood of Christ, and passion, while veering away slightly from the traditional red. The small pieces of color under Christ’s arms suggest a crowd or devoted following, while for the uninitiated, the pink also evokes outstretched wings.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
