Curator’s Comments:

The graphite drawing Insieme came up randomly on the site today, and I was drawn in by the soft tangle of limbs.  The smooth contours and erasure of the artist’s hand in the drawing give the figures the appearance of silverpoint.  While your notation indicates this piece was part of a series on female legs, I find the forms to be intriguing in their masculine and androgenous nature.  The positioning of the hand reaching over to the figure from left to right suggests a sexual relationship between the bodies.  But again, the ambiguity may be partially what holds the viewer’s interest. Looking through your other pieces posted to the site when you joined a few years ago, I remember admiring and commenting on the geometric abstractions. Insieme at first looks like an outlier in terms of subject matter, but I now see that several of the formal concerns in the figurative piece are echoed in the acrylic painting entitled Diffusion.  The gray-blue triangle jutting from left to right recalls the reaching arm, while the overlapping diagonal lines imitate the angles of the crossing legs.  I’m curious about the level of intentionality in these recurring design decisions. Of course, I would also be happy to see more of your current work on the site.
