Theresa Edmonds is a young photographer who recently completed her MFA from the International Center of Photography-Bard. Theresa was born and raised in New York; this is somehow very obvious in her photography. I think it’s mainly the claustrophobic compositions and gritty quality of her work since the east cost is an old, cramped and gritty place.
Theresa's…

Yesterday I had the pleasure of doing a studio visit with artist
Paul Sierra. I have admired Paul as an artist for over a decade, and we met for the first time just then. Other artist friends of mine have suggested I meet with Paul over the past year or so and, I am very glad I did.
Visiting an artist's…

The
Chicago Artists' Coalition opened its new gallery location this past Friday August 7, 2009 with a group show. Typical of the CAC there was a significant lack of continuity and organization. Its no wonder they don't call themselves the Chicago Artists Organization, because there is obviously none of that going into this show.
With 22 artists showing one or two…

I have volunteered to lead the next Mastermind August 17th at 1:00 pm Pacific Time. Last week there were only two participating artists. Several more signed up but didn't show up. In order for this to work, the Mastermind Discussion really needs at least
5 people to participate regularly. To quote Aletta, "Masterminds are successful when members commit to be there, hold themselves accountable to the group and share the work of keeping the group going." This group discussion is for all…

Last Saturday I did the unthinkable—I went to Hyde Park to look at some art that wasn't at the south side holy trinity (
Hyde Park Art Center,
Renaissance Society,
Smart Museum). Sure, I could have headed over to the West Loop or River North art districts, but I…

My piece in the "24 Work on Paper" show at the "Individual Artist Of Oklahoma" Gallery sold. It's a very good show with an interesting eclectic mix of art. I was very impressed with several of the pieces but liked them all.

I love the types of emails that take my breath away. I get excited, happy and "oh my gosh" all at once! Today our member Claudio emailed to me that one of his paintings that I really loved, the "water lily" that he posted yesterday and 2 other painting still in progress are going in Paris at the Louvre (actually under the glass pyramids in front of it) in October! I am just so happy for him since he is a dedicated artist who is truly in love with art. Congratulations my friend!

well, of course this is a nice thing to get to talk about. since i have now been picked up by 2 galleries (Modern Arts Midwest in Lincoln, NE and AMMO in New Orleans, LA) i find a lot of my time goes for documenting my work, and presenting it to the galleries in a format they can use and understand.
i have been fairly good about keeping my website updated (zkartz.com). i am really happy that i am in control of my own website! (advice: learn how to build and maintain your own…

I headed over to the Cultural Center yesterday, to hopefully get a sneak peek at what is opening on Friday. When I arrived, I was greeted by two roped-off Michigan galleries and a dire need for some artwork set in. I reached the southernmost gallery and began to hear people in the space saying, “This is pretty,” and “So colorful.” Now, one doesn’t expect to see ground breaking, or even very challenging work in a room where these words are uttered so readily. The whole time I was in the Gallery,…

oh boy. this is a hard one. now that i have weekends free (restricted to only painting 5 days a week - very sensibly - by Dallas) i need a hobby! although i have moved collage making and computer "stuff" to the weekend. still. lots of free time. so. strange. ;)
knowing that i SHOULD (parental message) have a varied life, thinking of learning bridge from Dallas (he would be thrilled), reading SF more than just on trips, and sitting in a church pew more than once a…

As one of the new kids on the block I'm still finding my way around Artists2Artists Social Network but I already love it! I'm getting to know some of the artists here, Sloane, Angela, etc. and see the sincere interest of helping hands. I hope I can be one of those. I have another new blog: http://artistretreat.blogspot.com. On it I describe the…
